Premier League Week 25 a few quick thoughts

  • I could have waited until Tomorrow to wrap up the week but I’ve got some spare time on my hands now, so it seems silly to waste it
  • If we start with Yesterday’s action and work backwards that will probably make the most sense
  • Chelsea missed the chance to go 12 points clear at the top of the table after only managing to earn a point away at Burnley
  • To be fair thought that is still better then how must teams have fared at Turf Moor this season
  • It looked like they would be cruising after going ahead early through Pedro’s goal but Robbie Brady’s excellent freekick pulled Burnley level
  • Brady who was signed in the January transfer window has already paid off a large chunk of his transfer fee with his effort yesterday
  • For Sean Dyche’s men it is a step closer to Premier League survival
  • While for Chelsea it’s a step close to the Premier League title
  • And talking of the title, last May seems so long ago now for Leicester
  • They lost the crucial six pointer away at Swansea yesterday
  • A result that is the 4th win in 6 for Paul Clement’s men and one that sees them leapfrog Leicester
  • The Foxes seem to be in terminal decline, 5 straight defeats and they’ve not even scored a goal since the turn of the year
  • They are now just 1 point clear of the dropzone with Claudio Ranieri looking short on ideas as of late
  • For Swansea it was two well taken goals as the resurgence continues. They decided to twist while Leicester have decided to stick, it’s quite apparent which club owners made the better decision
  • Saturday now and the biggest game of the day was Liverpool v Tottenham
  • A big win for Liverpool in what was a 6 pointer of sorts, perhaps not for the title but certainly in the race for the top four
  • Sadio Mane was the difference, he gave Ben Davies a torrid evening as it was his brace of goals that led Liverpool to all three points
  • It was another off night away from home for Tottenham and one that almost sees their title hopes evaporate, 10 points is arguably too much and the race for Champions League places once again hots up
  • Arsenal now find themselves level with Tottenham after their win against Hull on Saturday Lunchtime
  • A game which was decided by handball decisions
  • Firstly although Alexis Sanchez handled the ball over the line, the goal was given as it was deemed to be not deliberate handball. Whether the rules need to be changed I’m not sure but it was harsh on Hull
  • To rub salt in the wounds they were then down to 10 men late on when Sam Clucas for what was deemed to be deliberate handball
  • Alexis Sanchez duly stepped up from the spot to secure all three points for The Gunners
  • It may not have been vintage Arsenal but they got a much needed win after successive defeats
  • Manchester United went 5th for a couple of hours at least but they have tightened the gap to the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool or even Tottenham for that matter
  • That was because they made relatively light work for Watford as their unbeaten run continues
  • Goals from Juan Mata and Anthony Martial were the difference as The Red Devils look to mount a challenge to return to the Champions League
  • For Watford after back to back wins their momentum is halted but truth be told they were never in this game
  • Manolo Gabbiadini continues to endear himself to Southampton fans as his brace put them on their way to a very comfortable 4-0 win over Sunderland
  • It was a miserable day for David Moyes and that result will have undone all the hard work after that impressive 4-0 win over Crystal Palace the week before
  • And speaking of Palace their plight is no better as they were beaten 1-0 away at Stoke
  • Joe Allen’s goal was the difference between the two sides as Mark Hughes’ men solidify their top half spot
  • Sam Allardyce may have seen his side looked more solid than 7 days prior but still there was not enough from the attackers to really make a difference
  • Worrying times for Palace right now
  • West Ham and West Brom played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at The London Stadium
  • A point though that sees The Hammers slip to 10th while West Brom stay 8th
  • Slaven Bilic was not pleased with Michael Oliver’s performance but you do have to wonder how much Oliver got wrong exactly
  • Bilic was sent off after complaining about West Brom’s late equaliser but on balance a point seemed like a fair result
  • As for Middlesbrough vs Everton a bore draw
  • Once again a lack of goals for Aitor Karanka’s side but a crucial point
  • For Everton after scoring 6 last week Ronald Koeman will wonder why they were so cold at The Riverside Stadium
