Norwich vs Sunderland – Match Preview

Norwich keep finding themselves in so called relegation 6 pointer over the past few weeks with this now the third in as many weeks. They currently find themselves 4 points clear of Today’s opponents Sunderland and a win this Lunchtime could give them a massive boost in their bid for survival while defeat at Carrow Road and the last month of the season is going to be a particularly nervy one for Alex Neil’s side

Last time out they missed an opportunity to pull further clear of the drop zone as they were side that Crystal Palace finally found a league win against in 2016. The only saving grace from that defeat is that Sunderland failed to take advantage of that loss 24 hours later at home to Leicester.

Defeat for Norwich ended a run of 3 games without defeat and they know that they could almost secure survival with a win Today but there’s no cause for celebration just yet they still have an awful lot of work to do at that work starts in a few hours time.

They’ll play host to a Sunderland side who need to find a win from somewhere, they haven’t won in their last 6 matches and more frustratingly 4 of those have been draws. Their season has been symptomatic of not enough goals at one end and not enough clean sheets at the other and ultimately that is why they find themselves in the bottom three

Last time out they lost to Leicester in a game where they frustrated the league leaders for long periods of the game and they could and probably should have got something out of the game when Jack Rodwell was presented with the simplest of opportunities but his awful blaze over the bar from close range summed up their season in a microcosm

In fairness this a game that Sunderland have to win and Norwich have to make sure they don’t lose. The draw would undoubtedly suit the home side more but I don’t think either side can really afford to play for a share of the points.

It has the making of a nervy affair, but neither Defence is particularly solid so I would imagine there will be goals. I’ll go for a Norwich win which will be a massive boost for them in terms of Premier League survival while defeat for Sunderland means that Sam Allardyce will have to begrudgingly have one eye on preparing for life in The Championship next season.
