Manchester United vs Aston Villa – Match Preview

Manchester United have some catching up to do if they are to get back into the race for 4th place and possibly the final Champions League place and in Aston Villa they have the perfect opposition in which to get another 3 points on the board.

After the ignominy of turning up late to White Hart Lane last Sunday there was an almighty quickfire capitulation in the Second Half as they collapsed to a 3-0 defeat to title chasing Tottenham. It looked like they were going to frustrate Mauricio Pochettino’s side but then 6 minutes of madness saw United come away well beaten and another inquisition raised in regards to Louis Van Gaal’s tactics.

The fact the had Ashley Young up front and Anthony Martial out wide certainly had a lot of people scratching their heads as to why they were both in the wrong position but when your Louis Van Gaal then obviously he knows best.

The fact they are still in the F.A. Cup is stopping the season from being a complete washout, they spoiled the Upton Park party on Wednesday as Marcus Rashford once again scored another fantastic goal to add to his already burgeoning collection.

Will winning the F.A. Cup be enough for Louis Van Gaal or will it be deemed as the perfect leaving present for his departure. Even getting the Top 4 might not be enough if Manchester City and Liverpool both win their respective competitions so it seems highly unlikely that United will be dining at the European top table next season and that a Cup win might not be enough to appease the United board.

Their opponents Aston Villa can only dream of a Cup win. As good as relegated last weekend it’s only the mercy of Goal Difference which is delaying the inevitable for another week. Preparations for life in The Championship have started in earnest with the announcement that a lot of matchday staff are going to have to be laid off, you could make a much stronger case for the players getting the sack.

In a week where their end of season awards have been cancelled due to the frankly miserable season the only thing Villa can do is try and restore some pride. Last time out they lost to Bournemouth in front of a half empty Villa Park. Bournemouth have placed the final nail will United hammer it in?

I can’t see anything less than a win for United. They need one if they are to stay in the race for fourth. If they don’t win Today then there are going to be some incredibly irate fans leaving Old Trafford. But that said, it’s a home win for me.
