Managerial Merry Go Round – Movers and Shakers

It’s been a while since we (well I) updated the movement on the Managerial Merry Go Round, so lets see who has gone where and who is still left sitting on the carousel.

Real Madrid – They have announced that Rafa Benitez will be in charge, the ex Napoli Manager has signed a 3 year contract. Whether his style of Football will get him past the first year remains to be seen.

Derby County – Paul Clement takes his first full managerial role after leaving Real Madrid. Will he be experienced enough to get The Rams into the Premier League after they fell short in their bid last season

Sheffield United – Nigel Adkins takes over from Nigel Clough his experience of getting out of League 1 will be key as The Blades will finally look to reach The Championship after 4 seasons in League One.

Sunderland – Dick Advocaat has announced a U-Turn and has agreed a 1 year contract with the Black Cats. Will this be one season too many, as the adage says “you should never go back” and his reputation tarnished or will Big Dick be able to build on the good work he started in the last couple of months. Only time will tell

Newcastle – No announcement yet but the stories coming out of Tyneside indicate that Steve McClaren will be appointed at the third time of trying. Current incumbent John Carver will be rewarded for keeping the club up by staying on as McClaren’s Number 2. Will the Newcastle fans be able to forget McClaren’s previous Middlesbrough links or are they simply glad that Carver won’t be at the helm next season.

West Ham – Surprise news out of East London is that they are supposedly in talks with Unai Emery to take over from Sam Allardyce. Unai Emery very much seems to be one of the men of the moment after guiding Sevilla to back to back Europa League victories and it seems the pull of the Premier League might be enough for him to depart Sevilla. In some quarters Saven Bilic still seems to be the favourite but West Ham are yet to pull the trigger and make the big announcement.

Watford – Former Atletico Madrid manager Quique Sanchez Flores has been named as Watford head coach. His appointment comes after talks ended with Slavisa Jokanovic, who led Watford to promotion to the Premier League. This announcement means that this is Watford’s 5th Manager in a year. If Watford don’t get off to a good start, what price on there being a 6th?

A.C. Milan – Milan will be looking for a new Manager after Pippo Inzaghi has been told he won’t be in charge of the club next season, Inzaghi could only lead the club to 10th place in Serie A and with that missing out on European Football for the second season in a row. Ex Sampdoria Manager Sinisa Mihajlovic is favourite for the job with an announcement set to be made next week.

Liverpool – Brendan Rodgers seems to be safe for now with Jurgen Klopp saying he will be taking a sabbatical for at least 6 months. If Liverpool get off to a slow start next season could Klopp be in a perfect position to take over in early 2016?

Alan Curbishley – Still no work for Curbs

So that’s a quick snap shot of the movement on the managerial merry go round, I’m sure there will be some more people jumping on and jumping off in the foreseeable future.
