Malaga vs Barcelona in less than 3 minutes

Barcelona’s La Liga title hopes are in tatters after defeat to Malaga on Saturday, with Real Madrid drawing at home to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital derby earlier in the day Luis Enrique’s side were ready to take full advantage of Los Blancos dropping points.

Only that Barcelona have now seen the gap extend from two to three points after Malaga’s upset victory and that is not forgetting the fact that Real still have a game in hand, the situation now is that the title is very much Real’s to lose.

It was a nightmare evening for Luis Enrique as not only did his side lose 2-0 in Malaga but Barcelona also saw Neymar sent off with their being the likely possibility that the Brazilian could now miss El Clasico.

A first-half strike from ex-Barcelona forward Sandro Ramirez but Malaga ahead just after the half hour and they were good value for the lead. The question now was whether or not they could hold out.

Their bid to stay ahead was boosted by Neymar’s second yellow card just after the hour. ad brought down Diego Llorente with a late challenge, and then sarcastically applauded as he made his way off the pitch.

The 25-year-old is set to be suspended for the next league game against Real Sociedad on 15 April. But he could receive a longer ban if his reaction to the red card is deemed as contempt of the officials, which would mean he would miss the potentially season-defining El Clasico at the Bernabeu on 23 April.

And there would be insult added to injury when Jonny Rodriguez doubled the home side’s advantage to make it 2-0 and wrap up all three points. Barcelona now have to bounce back quickly as they face Juventus in the Champions League tomorrow.
