Leicester vs Tottenham a few quick thoughts

  • In terms of predictions, I got this one wrong……massively wrong
  • I had a feeling that after Tottenham secured second place last week with their win over Manchester United that they would be on the beach
  • And boy I could not be any more wrong could I
  • Mauricio Pochettino’s men exacted a modicum of revenge for Leicester’s title win last season
  • And not only that laid down a marker for next season by showing the rest of the league that there will be no let up
  • Tottenham will look to carry this huge wave of momentum with them next season as they move to Wembley and if there are any concerns in regards to playing away from White Hart Lane then this result would have gone some way to allaying them
  • Harry Kane of course earns all the plaudits after a dominant showing last night
  • He started the night two goals behind Romelu Lukaku in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot and by the end he is two goals clear
  • His sensational 4 goal haul at the King Power Stadium tore Leicester to shreds in a forgettable night for Craig Shakespeare’s men
  • As a contest it was not too uneven early on with Jamie Vardy having the first real effort in anger
  • But it would be Tottenham who would draw blood as their talisman Kane was in the right place at the right time to guide the ball home from close range
  • Soon after it would be 2-0 when Hueng-min Son flashed home from inside the box after Dele Alli’s scooped pass
  • Tottenham very much in the acendency going into the break
  • But Leicester would have a way back in the game in quite comical fashion, Hugo Lloris came charging out of his box to make a tackle which was horrendously mistimed
  • With Lloris scrambling to get back into the area, Daniel Amartey found Ben Chirlwell in acres of space on the left hand side
  • Even so, Chirwell took ages to pull the trigger as Lloris continued to flail around the area
  • Finally though the young Left Back shot into a near empty net to halve the Foxes deficit
  • But that two goal advantage for Tottenham would soon be restored
  • And this was the goal that knocked the wind out of Leicester’s sails
  • Kane was unchallenged and allowed to head home on practically the goal line to make it 3-1 to Tottenham and all but wrap up the points
  • But they were not done there, not by a long shot
  • Hueng-min Son then secured a brace for himself
  • The South Korean showed neat footwork on the edge of the box and then curled a beautiful effort past the hapless Kasper Schmeichel
  • Tottenham and Kane in particular could now smell blood as the race to be the league’s top scorer started to heat up
  • And it would be Kane who would be going home with the match ball when he added a third to make it 5-1
  • Spurs were rampant as the Leicester fans began to make for the exits in their droves
  • But the England international was not done there as he still had time to add a fourth with devastating effect to wrap up a relentless performance by both player and club
  • The only blot would have been the failure to keep a clean sheet but in the grand scheme of things it does not matter all that much
  • It may have been a dead rubber but it definitely was not a dull one
  • Tottenham have their tails up and if they carry this form to Sunday then an already relegated better be careful
  • As for Leicester they can still finish in the top half but that result will no doubt to caretaker boss Shakespeare
  • He is due for talks in regards to being given the job on a permanent basis, that result could not have come at a worse time
  • That said it should not overlook the job he has done since taking over from Claudio Raneiri
  • What will be interesting to see is how he copes with having to work with a transfer budget should he get the job on a full time basis
