Jurgen Klopp is really starting to make his mark on the Liverpool squad that he inherited in October with the announcement of his fourth signing this Summer, that being the capture of Estonian captain Ragnar Klavan.
After the departures of Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure the centre back ranks were looking a bit light in terms of personnel but the signing of Klavan will go some way to addressing that issue.
Klopp hasn’t been helped by the fact that Mamadou Sakho will be ruled out for the start of the season therefore a new centre back would have very much been top of the Klopp shopping list.
Klavan went up against Liverpool last season in the Europa League while playing for former club Augsburg, although the German side were knocked out they certainly didn’t make life easy for Liverpool and Kalgan’s performances would have definitely attracted the attention of the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Klavan is also well versed when it comes to international Football as he has represented Estonia over 100 times. Obviously Estonia aren’t world beaters but the exposure of playing against the top nations in major tournament qualification has certainly set Klavan in good stead.
With four new arrivals at Anfield the squad that Jurgen Klopp wants is beginning to take shape but how many more players will be signing in this transfer window and more importantly what calibre will they be?
They may have spent big on Sadio Mane but for me I still think he is too much of a streaky player and not quite in the top bracket of Premier League players. In my opinion Southampton have got the better end of the deal.
Does the fact that Liverpool have no European football to offer next season become some what of a hindrance, you would imagine that it will work against them should they try and take their interest further with Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze.
The signings that Klopp has made have been steady but not spectacular, Liverpool fans will be patiently waiting but also hoping that there is still a marquee signing around the corner.
