Hiddink The Caretaker given keys to Stamford Bridge…Again

Yesterday it was announced that Guus Hiddink will again become Interim Coach of Chelsea this time to fill the void of Jose Mourinho’s departure

The 69 year old took over in the 2008-2009 season in which he went on to win the F.A. Cup with a win over Everton

Hiddink will probably be viewing the F.A. Cup as the only possible route of silverware this season and to bring some joy to a miserable Chelsea season

“I am excited to return,” said the Dutchman. “Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world but is not where it should be at the moment.

“However, I am sure we can all turn this season around.”

Steve Holland and Eddie Newton will stay on to form the backroom staff while Didier Drogba will provide a link between players and manager as Hiddink looks to try and something from this campaign

The bigger question is who will fill the void permanently for the start of the 2016/17 season. Pep Guardiola probably tops that list if and when next week he announces he is to depart Bayern while Diego Simeone is another coach who is often linked with a potential move to the Chelsea hotseat.

But as of now, it seems as if Roman Abramovich has fallen back on Chelsea’s favourite Uncle, the safe pair of hands known as Hiddink. It’s the equivalent of the break glass in case of emergency in Managerial terms

Although since Hiddink’s last spell as Interim Chelsea boss he has a relatively unsuccessful time as manager of Turkey, Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala and the Netherlands. So can lightning strike twice for Chelsea

His first game in official charge is home to Watford on Boxing Day so not a particular baptism of fire but as we’ve seen with the Premier League this season there’s no such thing as a shock

Welcome back to the Premier League Guus.
