Harry Redknapp’s Jordan pay heavy price against Australia

After getting his International Management career off to a flyer after a resounding 8-0 win over World Footballing superpower Bangladesh last week. Harry Redknapp has been bought down to Earth after his Jordan side were beaten 5-1 by Australia earlier this Morning.

An attendance of just under 25,000 in Sydney saw Tim Cahill (who else) put the Socceroos in front after 25 minutes. Aaron Mooy then made it 2-0 while Cahill all but sealed the game with his second and Austraila’s third just before half time.

Goals from Tom Rogic and Massimo Luongo increased the score to 5-0 while Abdallah Deeb got scant consolation for Jordan in injury time. The win sees Australia clearly top the group and Jordan resigned to second place.

Although it looks like that second place won’t be enough for Jordan to progress to the next phase. Only the best four runners up proceed through to the next phase and although Jordan are fourth at the moment they would need Iraq, China, Oman and Kuwait all to lose their final group games. Quite a remarkable turn of events I’m sure you would agree.

This then probably means the end of Redknapp’s brief foray into International Management, initially on a 2 match deal there was scope for that deal to be extended if Jordan were to progress further. With that looking far from the case it looks as if Redknapp will have to make do with going back to Derby County as the Director of Football until the end of the season.

In fairness though it was easy money for Redknapp so what little reputation he has left won’t have taken too much of a dent as going to Australia and beating them will have a been a big ask. Will Harry carry on his International Coaching mercenary work or was this just a one off?

Here’s all the important action from earlier this morning
