Guest Article – Ten Players Who Have Played For Barcelona and Real Madrid

Time for our third guest article of 2018 now as new transfer window signing Anthony Umoh takes a look at ten players that been brave enough to play for both Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Every kid dreams of playing for best clubs in the world; not many get there. Barcelona and Real Madrid are two dream clubs with a load of history to their names. Some of the best players in history have played for these clubs not many have played for both clubs. In this article, i will be talking about the best players to play for F.C Barcelona and Real Madrid

10)Javier Saviola

Javier Saviola was one of the most talented young players of his generation. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to fulfil his potential, but his potential was able to earn him a move to Barcelona in 2001 and staying they’re til to 2007. He wasn’t able to win a trophy at Barcelona. He then joined Real Madrid in 2007 from F.C Barcelona and won the La Liga and Supercopa de Espana in 2008, but he wasn’t unable to fulfil his potential and left in 2009.

9)Robert Prosinecki

Robert Prosinecki despite being born in West Germany played for Croatia and won 49 caps scoring ten goals played as an attacking midfielder.He joined Real Madrid in 1991 and left them in 1994 being able to win the Copa Del Rey and Copa de Espana in 1993 despite this his Real Madrid career contained many injuries. He moved to Barcelona in 1995 spending one season there but not managing to win a trophy there.

8)Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique is a former Barcelona manager and player, as a player, he had good technique, but he was known for his stamina and his goal scoring ability he played for Real Madrid in 1991 to 1996 winning La Liga in 1995 and the Copa Del Rey in 1993. He was then transferred to Barcelona straight from Real Madrid and stayed there until he retired in 2004. He won trophies like La Liga, Copa Del Rey, Supercopa de españa, Uefa cup winners cup and the Uefa Super Cup.

7)Ricardo Zamora

Ricardo Zamora is not a name many people will remember because he played almost ninety years ago. However, that shouldn’t reduce his greatness, to clarify he was one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and he was able to make forty-six caps for the Spanish national team. Ricardo Zamora played for F.c Barcelona from 1919 to 1922 winning the Copa Del Rey twice, but his peak came when he signed for Real Madrid. At this time he was able to win the Copa De Espana twice in 1934 and 1936, and he won La Liga in 1932 and 1933.

6)Bernd Schuster

Bernd Schuster was one of the most talented players of his generation as well as being one of the best Germans of his generation.Schuster was a centre-midfielder, and he was known for his brilliant technique he also had a dominant personality which partly resulted in the downfall of his career as well as his injuries. He played for Barcelona from 1980 to 1988, suffering a horrendous tackle in 1981 by Andoni Goikoetxea, but he was still able to win La Liga in 1985, winning the Copa Del Rey three times and winning the European cup winners cup. He then joined Real Madrid in 1988 til 1990 winning La Liga and the Copa Del Rey.

5)Gheorghe Hagi

Gheorghe Hagi is the best Romanian footballer of all time, and he managed to earn the nickname “The Maradona of the Carpathians”. Hagi was known for passing, first touch and his ability to be able to use both feet. Hagi first joined Real Madrid and spent two years there from 1990 to 1992 only being able to win the Supercopa de Espana. Later on, he joined Barcelona and spent two years there from 1994 to 1996 winning the Supercopa de Espana in 1995.

4)Samuel Eto’o

Samuel Eto’o is one of the best African footballers ever. He has won African footballer of the year record time in 2002,2003,2005 and 2010. Eto’o is known for his technique and his brilliant physical ability. Eto’o started his career at Real Madrid but only managed to make a couple of appearances and left for Real Mallorca In 2000. However, a more successful time came in Barcelona playing from 2004 to 2009 being able to win the Champions League, La Liga and Copa Del Rey.

3)Michael Laudrup

Michael Laudrup is one of the best playmakers ever and was an incredibly elegant player who was known for his intelligence on the ball and his one of the most exceptional passers of all time. He inspired many including the likes of a current Barcelona player call Andres Iniesta. Landup played for Barcelona from 1989 to 1994 being part of Johan Cruyff’s dream team being able to win four straight La Liga’s from 1991 to 1994. He then transferred to Real Madrid spending two years there but only winning the La Liga title in 1995.

2)Ronaldo

Ronaldo is one of the best strikers ever. He would be one of the best players ever if it wasn’t for his injuries and sometimes poor attitude which led to him missing the training session. Ronaldo can claim to be one of the most talented players ever as he was able to dribble past players with speed and flair, finish the ball brilliantly and had had fantastic control.He joined Barcelona from PSV, but he only stayed for one year during the 1996-1997 season. Ronaldo had a more sustained period at Real Madrid where spend five years from 2002 to 2007 being able to win the Champions league in 2002 and La Liga in 2003 and 2007.

1)Luis Figo

Luis Figo at one point in his career was the best player in the world; he had everything going for him. Figo was a complete player being known for his exceptional dribbling ability which embraced many defenders, and his crossing ability means he was able to provide the end product. He played for Barcelona as a winger and was able to win trophies like La Liga and Copa Del Rey. Unfortunately for the Barcelona fans, Figo made one of the most controversial transfers into the sport moving to his fierce rivals Real Madrid in 2000. When he played his first match against Barcelona he had many things thrown including a pig’s head. His peak for Real Madrid came in 2002 when won Champions League.

Thanks again Anthony, Not many players play for Barcelona and Real Madrid, but these are few players who have dared to suffer the wrath of either the Barcelona or Real Madrid fans.
