Guest Article – Leeds Not Up For The Cup

Time for another guest article as we hand a debut cap to Maz Brown who you can follow on twitter, Maz is a Leeds fan and has just about recovered from the fact that Leeds were knocked out of the F.A. Cup by Newport. Now there is the perfect opportunity to vent, so Maz the floor is all yours.

Having beaten Newport County in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season 5-1, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Leeds United would do the same again in this FA Cup tie at Rodney Parade. The club wanted to break the hoodoo which had haunted us since the days of Histon and Sutton. And it started so well with Gaetano Berardi bagging his first goal for the club which sent the away end into delirious celebrations. However, the pitch was not of a very high standard and this stopped us from playing a passing game. We were really shaky in defence, our midfield were non-existent and our attacking just couldn’t get going. In fact, let’s be brutally honest, the entire team were void of ideas on the day and Newport wanted it more, simple as that. They were more threatening, full of ideas and were just outstanding.

The huge talking point of the game was when Samu Saiz who came on in the second half to try get us going managed to get himself sent off by spitting at a Newport County player and it was absolutely disgusting to see from a man that is supposed to be a role model for the younger fans of Leeds United. His apology however was sincere and the Newport County player accepted it graciously. He’s now banned for the next six games and this could cost Leeds dearly points wise. Let’s hope my next article is less scathing and more positive!

I wish Newport County the best of luck in their FA Cup journey. Much deserved winners on the day.
