Have you heard the gossip?
We’ve reached the end of the first week of Janaury and although there is no Premier League action to discuss, there are plenty of back page headlines.
Gossip columned returns for its sixth episode and making the headlines today are:
Chelsea are set to make a £50m bid for Paris St Germain’s Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani, 31. (Sunday Express)
Arsenal have opened talks with Barcelona over Spanish midfielder Denis Suarez and are hopeful of signing the 24-year-old in the January transfer window. (Observer)
But Gunners manager Unai Emery also wants to sign a defender and a winger. (Mail on Sunday)
Fulham are keen on Liverpool striker Divock Origi and are prepared to pay £15m for the 23-year-old Belgium international. (Sun on Sunday)
Bournemouth will reject any offers from Chelsea this month for England striker Callum Wilson, 26. (Sunday Mirror)
Chelsea will miss 31-year-old midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who is “one of the best players to have played in England for many, many years”, says the Blues’ Brazil defender David Luiz. Spain international Fabregas is expected to join French side Monaco.(Talksport)
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has turned down the Benfica job after the Portuguese club sacked Rui Vitoria this week. (Record – in Portuguese)
Another former United manager, David Moyes, is interested in becoming Stoke City boss. (Daily Star Sunday)
