Guest Article – A Footballing Tour of London (Interactive Storymap)

Something different now and I’ve been fortunate to have been sent this very interesting map of all the football grounds in London. A big shout out must to go to L.A. Stretch Limos who have taken the time to create this infograph, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Last Sunday was the end of an era for football in north London as White Hart Lane hosted its final fixture after 118 years in existence, with Tottenham Hotspur moving into a new stadium in 2018 after a transitional season at Wembley. The Lane, as it was affectionately known by Spurs fans, was one of several iconic football grounds in London, with the UK’s capital city boasting venues of all shapes and sizes.

If you’ve ever fancied doing a tour of London’s football stadia, you could do a lot worse than use the interactive storymap below as a planning guide. Created by London-based L.A. Stretch Limos, the map takes in a dozen of the city’s most prominent grounds, from AFC Wimbledon’s quaint Kingsmeadow home to the gleaming, world-famous Wembley Stadium. We should point out that, with London featuring dozens of football venues, the map covers just Premier League, Championship and League One venues as of the 2016/17 season, with no disrespect intended to fans of clubs from League Two and below.

As for the map’s headline describing London as ‘football capital of the world’? That’s a debate which will never truly be settled, with fans of teams from other cities bound to stake their respective claims, but given the presence of Wembley and the inclusion of 25% of the clubs in the 2016/17 Premier League, London’s claim is a most legitimate one. Where else would you find such a variety of captivating venues in such a confined area? It has everything from the eye-pleasing modernity of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and West Ham’s London Stadium to the timeless vintage of Selhurst Park and The Den.

One highly recommended visit is Fulham’s Craven Cottage, a riverside venue that’s often cited as a favourite away day for fans of other clubs, while those who like a tipple will enjoy Brentford’s Griffin Park, the only professional football ground in England with a pub at every corner. Don’t just take our word for it, though; journey through the storymap for your own interests!

More importantly here is the map in all its glory
