Everton vs Stoke – Match Preview

Everton quintet Phil Jagielka, Steven Pienaar, James McCarthy, Steven Naismith and Bryan Oviedo are all in contention to return after injury.

Gerard Deulofeu could come into the side, having only been used as a substitute on Boxing Day.

Stoke forward Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to be fit despite suffering a minor injury against Manchester United.

Geoff Cameron and Glenn Whelan suffered respective calf and hamstring problems in that game but should be available.

Editor’s Note: Everton snatched it at the death against Newcastle on Saturday to record their first win in 5 matches and relieve the slight pressure that was building on Roberto Martinez.

But for Everton there is no time to rest on their laurels as they play host to a Stoke side who are fresh of claiming another Manchester scalp as they cruised to a comfortable win over United on Saturday.

For all of Everton’s efforts going forward they have been slightly let down at the back so the news that Phil Jagielka could be set to return will be a massive boost for The Toffees.

Both teams will look to move away from the mid table position they currently sit in and aim to get nearer the Top 7 or 8 and have a crack at that last Europa League spot. For Stoke they will be hoping they can name the same team that strolled to victory over United but will have to assess injury knocks to Shaqiri, Cameron and Whelan.

I think with both teams on a high after their victories last time out, I think the two sides will end up cancelling each other out. A draw for me at Goodison Park Today
