Is Everton Vacancy set for De Boer War

With the sacking of Roberto Martinez yesterday the focus now shifts as to who will be next into the Goodison Park hotseat and with the promise of a Summer war chest for the transfer window it becomes a very attractive proposition.

The early battle seems to be between two Dutchmen. One who wants the job and the other who it seems will have be tempted away from his current position.

Frank De Boer has put himself in the frame after leaving Ajax at the beginning of the week. The departure comes after his Ajax side threw away the chance of winning the title on the final day of the season to arch rivals PSV.

De Boer has gone on record and said he would be interested in the Everton job but would a Manager of his ilk just be  the same problem under a different guise. The fact he has no Premier League experience and hasn’t pulled up any trees in Europe could very well go against him

If you are to believe what is in the papers today then the Everton board are planning to tempt Ronald Koeman away from Southampton and lure him up to Merseyside with the promise of Everton’s biggest ever transfer budget to spend this Summer.

In terms of stature and history then Everton are the bigger club but on present form over the past few years you would have to think of it asca sideways step at best if Koeman was to leave the South Coast club.

This is a man who has very nearly taken Southampton to the Europa League two seasons in a row  with Everton going in the opposite direction they certainly won’t have European Football to offer next time around.

Not only that but whoever does take charge of Everton is more than likely going to have to do without Romelu Lukaku, John Stones and Ross Barkley

If those three depart then a new manager is going to have to use that transfer kitty to get suitable replacements in and let’s not forget when other clubs know you have money to burn the transfer fees have a habit of going north.

If Everton do go Dutch, I have a feeling it will be Frank De Boer rather than Ronald Koeman but whoever does take over from Roberto Martinez has got a big rebuilding job on their hands after the state he left them in.
