Group H has already been wrapped up in terms of the nation that will top the group and subsequently qualify for the World Cup Finals next Summer. That nation is Belgium and they earned another three points last night in arguably the most entertaining fixture of last night.
Roberto Martinez’s men took part in a seven goal thriller last night in Sarajevo as they edged past Bosnia by a scoreline of four goals to three. The Belgian’s are unbeaten in Group H but at one point it did look as if that unbeaten record would be coming to an end.
That is because at half time the Bosnian’s found themselves in a 2-1 lead. That scenario would be turned on it’s head after goals from Michy Batshuyai and Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen he became Belgian’s most capped international, what better way to celebrate that then with a goal.
Bosnia would however peg them back once more with eight minutes to go to make it 3-3. Dario Dumic may well have thought he had done enough to give the home side a share of the points but there was still one last twist in the tale as Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco snatched the winner just two minutes later.
Belgium now have 25 points out of 27 in terms of World Cup Qualification while defeat for Bosnia sees them sit third in the group, two points behind Greece who won the local rivalry with Cyprus last night by two goals to one. Greece play minnows Gibraltar on Tuesday while Bosnia make the trip to Estonia.
While there was more international misery for Gibraltar as they were handed a 6-0 defeat by Estonia. Gibraltar have lost all nine qualifiers and conceded 43 goals in the process, an average of just under five goals a game. It has been nothing short of embarrassing for the island nation.
