The makeup of the Europa League Second Qualifying Round has now been completed with a total of 66 teams that will take part at this stage of the competition. 16 teams which enter in this round and the 50 winners of the first qualifying round. The first legs will be played on 13 July, and the second legs will be played on 20 July 2017.
For British clubs it is case of what might have been as there were knockouts across the board for the entrants from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. After Glasgow Rangers were dumped out on Tuesday night by Luxembourg’s Progres Niedercorn and they subsequenly miss out on a tie with Cypriot side AEL Limasol.
There is however some Scottish representation at this stage of the competition as Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen pick up the slack for the SPFL. They have been handed tie against Siroki Birjeg of Bosnia as they target a place in one of the 12 groups when we reach the competition proper.
There is also representation for the League Of Ireland as Shamrock Rovers and Cork City both booked their places in this round on Thursday night. The former go up against the Czech side Mlada Bolesav while Cork fans will be packing their suncream as they go head to head of AEK Larnaca of Cyprus.
Other notables names in at this stage are Galatasaray who face Ostersund of Sweden, FC Utrecht who are paired with Valetta of Malta, Sturm Graz of Austria take on Mladost Podgorica of Montenegro while Brondy of Denmark make the short trip to Finland to face VDS
