Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid – Match Preview

Is tonight the pivotal night in the race for La Liga as Real Madrid finally play their much delayed game in hand when they travel to Northwest Spain to face Celta Vigo. Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently second in La Liga while on the same points as arch rivals Barcelona.

That means they would only require a draw to edge above the Catalan giants this evening and if we work on the assumption that Barcelona do win their final game of the season then Los Blancos need just four points from their two away trips.

The first is in Galicia this evening as they take on Celta and should they overcome that hurdle then they can wrap up the title in Andalusia when they travel to Malaga. Real have had their fair share of last day title despair and will want to make sure it does not happen again this weekend.

They go up against a Celta side who have been solely focusing on their Europa League exploits since the turn of the year, those exploits came to and end last Thursday when they were edged out by Manchester United by an aggregate score of 2-1.

Had John Guidetti scored with the very last kick off the game then it could have been a very different story with they and not United progressing to the Europa League Final. As it stands this will have to be the cup final of sorts as they look to put a spanner in the works of Real’s title hopes.

Celta have already claimed the scalp of Barcelona at the Baladios this season with a 4-3 win – the game is arguably most remembered for Marc-Andre ter Stergen’s goalkeeping blunder which set Celta well on their way to a historic victory.

Real will have to make sure they are no such slips up but this is a Celta side that is very much on the beach in regards to league form so it should mean that a routine win is well in reach for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and the esteemed company of his teammates.

They come into this game not only having secured their return to the Champions League final but also having beaten Sevilla 4-1 at the weekend. It was Sevilla in which they lost their unbeaten record earlier in the season so the win would have no doubt been some welcome revenge.

Real have won their last four league outings since that dramatic El Clasico defeat while Celta have lost their last five league matches. The form book points in only one direction and rightfully so, I can’t see anything else than a Real win this evening.
