BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 73

The weekend is just around the corner but before you go out and celebrate with reckless abandon make sure you line your stomach with a hearty serving of transfer gossip

Chelsea are confident of signing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, for £35m before this summer’s transfer deadline next Thursday. (Daily Telegraph) This will ultimately hinge on below

Arsenal face the prospect of having to sell England player Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is out of contract next summer and is set to reject a new Gunners offer. (Daily Mirror) Arsene Wenger is not prepared to sell Alexis Sanchez but may feel that Oxlade-Chamberlain is more expendable.

Chelsea are also trying to push through the £15m signing of Swansea City’s Spanish striker Fernando Llorente, 32, who played under Blues boss Antonio Conte at Juventus. (Daily Telegraph) It would give Chelsea another option as they are still a player light in attack

City will launch a third bid, of more than £25m, to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans, 29. (Times – subscription required) The belief is that West Brom will not sell Jonny Evans until they sign a replacement

Barcelona have agreed a deal worth up to 150m euros (£138m) to sign Borussia Dortmund’s 20-year-old France forward Ousmane Dembele. (L’Equipe – in French) This is the replacement for Neymar but can they still manage to land Philippe Coutinho

Meanwhile, the Spanish giants say Turkey midfielder Arda Turan, 30, can leave on a free transfer. (Sport – in Spanish) It’s never really worked out for Turan at the Nou Camp, although this news could be of interest for Arsenal fans

Swansea have cooled their interest in 28-year-old midfielder Nacer Chadli after being quoted in excess of £25m by West Bromwich Albion. (Daily Mail) I mean he’s decent enough but not at £25m, then again what other options do Swansea have?

Crystal Palace are interested in signing 33-year-old goalkeeper Michel Vorm from Tottenham. (Evening Standard) Tottenham have purchased a goalkeeper in the week but I’m not sure they plan on letting Vorm depart this season

The Eagles are also keen to bring Barcelona’s 21-year-old forward Munir El Haddadi to Selhurst Park. (Sport – in Spanish) That could be a good signing as his route to the first team is pretty much blocked at the Nou Camp.

RB Leipzig’s 20-year-old Scottish winger Oliver Burke is set for a medical at West Brom. (Sky Sports) It seems as if the lure of the Premier League will out weight that of the Champions League

Huddersfield Town are interested in signing Leeds United’s former West Ham and England goalkeeper Robert Green, 37. (Daily Mail) Would provide backup to what Huddersfield already have

Winger Demarai Gray, 21, wants Leicester to start him or sell him, with Bournemouth offering nearly £30m for the former Birmingham player. (Daily Mirror) He had talks with the club earlier in the summer with those demands, Leicester now need to decide whether to stick or twist

Newcastle’s Dutch attacking midfielder Siem de Jong, 28, is close to completing a move to Ajax. (Newcastle Chronicle) His spell on Tyneside has been one to forget in all fairness

Birmingham manager Harry Redknapp says he has not given up on signing Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing, 33, despite stating negotiations have “slowed up”. (Birmingham Mail) Triffic

Sunderland will demand £20m for Gabon midfielder Didier Ndong, 23, who is attracting interest from West Ham United. (Daily Mirror) Stop the world I want to get off

Meanwhile, Black Cats boss Simon Grayson says the club are ready for a busy final week in the transfer window. (Sunderland Echo) I am braced Simon, I cannot wait

Juventus are set to sign 29-year-old Germany defender Benedikt Howedes from Schalke. (Corriere Della Sera – in Italian) It was meant to be Liverpool earlier in the week, not good news for Liverpool fans.

Meanwhile, the Italian champions also held a meeting with Barcelona in Monaco over the possible transfer of the Spanish club’s midfielder Andre Gomes, 24. (Mundo Deportivo – in Spanish) Monaco need to replenish their squad after losing so many star players this season

Former Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani, 33, is set to sign for Spanish club Las Palmas. (Marca – in Spanish) Remember when he was the new Xabi Alonso….
