BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 29

We’ve hit the middle of the week as I look outside my window it looks as if summer as almost ended, be that as it may the football season is yet to have started so in the meantime we will have to continue to wade through all this transfer gossip and there is a lot to sift through today, so here we go

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Eric Dier wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur to join Manchester United, and the Old Trafford club are expected to make an improved offer of £50m for the 23-year-old midfielder. (Guardian) I still don’t buy this one, perhaps some club bias on my part but I cannot see him leaving this summer

Ross Barkley’s future at Everton looks increasingly uncertain after the England midfielder was left out of Ronald Koeman’s squad for the trip to Tanzania. The club said the 23-year-old is suffering from a groin injury. (Daily Mail) His time at the club does look up especially with the arrivals of Wayne Rooney and Davy Klassen, should they sign Gylfi Sigurdsson also then that will be final nail in his Everton coffin

Lucas Leiva could be on his way to Lazio after he was not offered a new contract at Liverpool. The 30-year-old is still training with the Reds but started just 12 games last season. (Daily Star) Been linked with a number of European clubs this summer, just a case of which one he actually moves to

Monaco and France striker Kylian Mbappe, 18, has had a three-hour meeting with Arsene Wenger to discuss a possible move to Arsenal. (Express) Can Arsenal land the hottest teenage talent on the market right now, probably more chance of playing regularly here than at Real Madrid but I still would put the Champions League winners as favourites

Atletico Madrid are becoming increasingly desperate to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa, 28, having missed out on their three main targets this summer. The La Liga club are also trying to lure 23-year-old Monaco and Brazil midfielder Fabinho, who is a target for Manchester United. (Independent) Diego Costa will not be leaving until Chelsea land a new striker of their own

Paris St-Germain are considering a move for 26-year-old Manchester City and France defender Eliaquim Mangala. (ESPN) Had a loan spell at Valencia last season, still not part of Pep Guardiola’s plans, whether he does end up at PSG though remains to be seen

PSG are also on the verge of signing Brazil full-back Dani Alves on a free transfer despite interest from Manchester City in the 34-year-old former Juventus and Barcelona defender. (Telegraph) Bad news for Manchester City especially as that means that the price of Kyle Walker will have no increased

Everton want to replace Romelu Lukaku with 26-year-old Crystal Palace and Belgium striker Christian Benteke, but the Eagles are not willing to sell their record signing. (Daily Mirror) Everton will have the financial muscle but Crystal Palace need to hang on to their best players to avoid another relegation battle

West Ham want to sign Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart, 30, but only on loan. (Telegraph) You can read my views on my this one by clicking the link

Marseille have not given up hope of agreeing a deal to sign Moussa Sissoko from Tottenham. The 27-year-old France midfielder is keen to leave White Hart Lane. (Evening Standard) It’s apparent that Sissoko is not going to get regular first team football at Tottenham it now depends on whether or not the player is prepared to continue his role as a squad player

West Brom are among 20 clubs competing to sign 22-year-old Chelsea and France defender Kurt Zouma on loan. (Daily Mirror) The arrival of Antonio Rudiger has knocked him down the pecking order and after serious injury needs a long run of games under his belt, something he will not get at Chelsea

Zouma is expected to hold talks with West Brom and Stoke City on Wednesday with a view to a possible loan deal. (Birmingham Mail) Take your pick for Zouma, he could end up anywhere this summer

Bayern Munich’s Brazil winger Douglas Costa, 26, arrived in Turin on Tuesday night to have a medical with Juventus. (ESPN) Great business for Juventus as Bayern signed James Rodriguez yesterday on a 2 year loan deal

Manchester United have opened talks with 27-year-old Spain midfielder Ander Herrera over a new deal worth £175,000 a week. (Daily Star) How serious is this Barcelona interest, I’m not sure but it does mean a personal windfall for Herrera

Everton will rival Crystal Palace for £8.6m-rated Ajax and Netherlands defender Jairo Riedewald, 20. (Liverpool Echo) Everton once again looking to flex their financial muscle

England under-21 winger Jacob Murphy is open to a move to Newcastle United from Norwich City. The Magpies have already had an £8m offer turned down. (Chronicle) Newcastle need a break from somewhere in this transfer window, looks like they will have to come back with a bid of around £10m

West Ham will raise their offer for Marko Arnautovic after Stoke rejected the Hammers’ first move for the 28-year-old Austria forward. (Evening Standard) Stoke have already got rid of Jonathan Walters but this is a player that they will want to keep at the Bet 365 Stadium.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare wants to bring in Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, 32, as a replacement for Ron-Robert Zieler, 28, who has joined Stuttgart. (Hull Daily Mail) Jakupovic would be a solid if not unspectacular backup for Leicester

The Foxes have promised Demarai Gray, 21, additional playing time to fend off interest in the England Under-21 winger from Tottenham. (Independent) This is key for the youngster, he’s looking to play regularly and would a move away necessarily facilitate that

Liverpool are considering a loan offer from Championship side Middlesbrough for England Under-20 winger Sheyi Ojo, 20. (Liverpool Echo) This will hinge on whether or not Jurgen Klopp wants the youngster as part of his first team squad next season

West Ham, Southampton, and Crystal Palace have shown interest in Barcelona’s Spanish forward Munir El Haddadi, 21. (Sport Witness, via Mundo Deportivo) Another player who has spent time on loan at Valencia but could he now swap the Nou Camp for the Premier League

Newcastle United will miss out on Pepe Reina, 34, as the Spain goalkeeper is set to sign a new contract at Napoli. (Chronicle, via Premium Sport) More bad news for Newcastle

Hertha Berlin have signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, the son of former Tottenham and Germany striker Jurgen. (Talksport) ……at least he’ll be good at diving
