BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 18

It may be late Wednesday afternoon but there is still time for a nice helping of transfer gossip, so make yourself a cup of tea and spend five minutes reading this afternoon’s debunking

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Forward Kasper Dolberg, 19, a target for Manchester United, Manchester City and Roma, does not want to leave Ajax. (Ajax TV via Goal) Right now no-one wants to go to Manchester United do they

Watford hope to sign winger Kamil Grosicki after new Hull City boss Leonid Slutsky failed to convince the 28-year-old to stay with the Tigers. (Watford Observer) With a quick return to the Premier League on offer it was always going to be a hard sell to keep Grosicki….that and he gets to move away from Hull. So every cloud and all that

West Brom are aware of 29-year-old Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia’s availability, but would rather sign Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson, 24, Sunderland’s Lamine Kone, 28, or 27-year-old Chris Smalling from Manchester United. (Birmingham Mail) Ranocchia may have scored a couple of goals for Hull last season but we probably be more likely remembered for that howler away at Crystal Palace. Tony Pulis will be better suited going for one of the other three players mentioned

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will give goalkeeper Tim Krul, 29, and forwards Henri Saivet, 26, Siem De Jong, 28, and Emmanuel Riviere, 27, a final chance to impress him in pre-season. (Newcastle Chronicle) Surprised Tim Krul has fallen out of favour, the other three I’m surprised they’ve even been given a final chance.

League One Walsall could receive £4m thanks to a sell-on clause if West Brom or Leicester complete a £20m deal for Watford striker Troy Deeney, 29. (Express and Star) Could be the operative word here, I can’t see Deeney leaving Watford especially for £20m

Aston Villa’s 23-year-old defender Jordan Amavi looks set to join Spanish side Sevilla. (Birmingham Mail) Highly touted when he joined Aston Villa, never really got going for him though and a move will arguably kickstart his career
