BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 16

It’s lunch time and that can only mean a couple of things. Food and more transfer gossip. You may or may not have just had your lunch and if that is the case then make sure you leave room for a bit more rumour debunking. Here we go…

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Romelu Lukaku’s representatives have suggested the 24-year-old Everton striker would prefer a move to Manchester United rather than Chelsea if he leaves Goodison Park this summer. (BBC presenter Richard Askam on Twitter)  Personally I think the smart money is still on a move to Chelsea if at all, the only way he goes to Old Trafford is if Jose Mourinho shelves any plans to purchase Alvaro Morata

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, 18, is to resist approaches from Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain to sign five-year contract with the Italian club. (Gianluigidimarzio.com – in Italian) A change of tact then from the Italian youngster who last month said he was not prepared to sign a new contract at the San Siro

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is frustrated by the club’s failure to add to £31m defender Victor Lindelof so far this summer and his staff were surprised at chief executive Ed Woodward flying to New Zealand to watch the British and Irish Lions’ first Test last month. (Guardian) Manchester United have been linked with so many players this summer, I guess if you throw enough mud at the wall some of it will stick

Juventus have pleaded with left-back Alex Sandro, 26, to give them one more season and resist a £61m move to Chelsea. (London Evening Standard) Chelsea are going to want Alex Sandro this summer not next, if it’s not Sandro then it will be easier just to go elsewhere as Antonio Conte looks to evolve the title winning squad

Benjamin Mendy’s move to Manchester City from Monaco looks close to conclusion after the Ligue 1 club signed the 22-year-old left-back’s apparent replacement. (Manchester Evening News)  Monaco are getting ripped apart after such a successive season, still that comes as no real surprise. The Ligue 1 champions may well struggle to be as successful next season.

Newcastle and Watford are both interested in signing winger Kamil Grosicki, 29, who Hull are willing to sell for £9m. (Hull Daily Mail) Could be a useful addition to either Premier League outfit next season after impressing in the last few months of the previous campaign
