Honours even in Saturday’s El Clasico but Barcelona will still be reeling from the fact that they should have cut Real Madrid’s lead at the top of La Liga to three points.
A cagey first half saw few real chances of note. Real Madrid should have had a penalty early on when Lucas Vazquez was fouled early on by Javier Mascherano but the Referee waved away any Real protests.
Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were quiet by their own standards as it was left to other members of the respective supporting cast to find the goals.
Barcelona would draw first blood when Luis Suarez scored 10 minutes after the restart, his header was guided in with pinpoint accuracy to give the Catalan side the lead.
Soon after the goal Andres Iniesta would come on for Andre Gomes and complete his return from injury, his return would give Barcelona a calming influence as they looked to see out the game
But Los Blancos had other ideas. With just a minute to go a inch perfect free kick was lofted in by Luka Modric and once again Sergio Ramos was the saviour. He added to his collection of late headers with a vital one to stun the Nou Camp and give Real a share of the points.
That means Real stay 6 points clear of Barcelona and 9 points clear of Atletico Madrid. They have cleared two massive hurdles in the past three weeks and now are strong favourites to win this season La Liga title.
The focus for them now shifts to Champions League action on Tuesday when they face Borussia Dortmund knowing that they need a win top their group and get a potentially easier draw in the Round of 16. Barcelona meanwhile play a dead rubber against Bourssia Monchengladbach
