Last night it was announced by Aston Villa that Remi Garde has left the club by ‘Mutual Consent’ – his spell at Villa Park will certainly be one to forget as he only managed to win 2 out of 20 Premier League matches with the club rooted to the bottom of the table.
The ex-Arsenal Midfielder only lasted in the Villa hotseat for 147 days and it might go down as one of the most lacklustre managerial reigns in Premier League history. A win percentage of just 10% and the club 12 points from safety with 7 games to go.
Questions will be asked as to how bad was Garde’s managment or was it that he had an impossible job from the beginning maybe it lied somewhere in between the two as the performances on the pitch certainly didn’t help his cause
That said he never looked liked inspiring the side to produce anything positive and you could almost tell from the start he was dead man walking. Personally I feel it was the wrong appointment to start with but is Garde the fall guy for a whole a club which has been mismanaged from top to bottom
If Garde wasn’t the man to keep in the Premier League then he certainly wasn’t going to be the man to get them out of The Championship next season and the Villa board have obviously felt that they are going to have to start afresh a get a new man in
How attractive will the proposition of managing Aston Villa in The Championship be next season. Still obviously a big club in stature it will no doubt get a large amount of interest but whoever has the fortune or perhaps misfortune to take over needs to do a root and branch clear out of all the dead wood in the current Villa squad
As for Garde, he’ll never work in England again and will join the pantheon of ‘Worst Ever Premier League Managers’. He’ll now be mentioned in the same breath as Felix Magath, Terry Connor and John Carver. Au Revoir Remi
