F.A. Cup 5th Round a few quick thoughts

  • Only four games yesterday so not quite an action packed day of Football but there was still a few stories to come out of the 5th Round
  • Arsenal were held by Hull in a stalemate and you can read my thoughts on that one in full here http://realfootballman.com/2016/02/20/arsenal-vs-hull-a-few-quick-thoughts/
  • The headlines were made off the pitch as Chris Brunt was struck by a coin by his own fans after West Brom’s 3-1 defeat to Reading
  • Certainly something you can’t condone and no doubt the fan will be given a lifetime ban from The Hawthorns if and when he is caught
  • As for matters on the pitch, Reading pulled off the upset of day after coming from behind to win 3-1 at The Madjeski Stadium
  • It seemed as if Brian McDermott’s substitutions in the second half were what turned the game around as Reading scored three times after the break to progress into the 6th Round
  • Can they repeat or even go one better than their Semi Finals achievement from last season
  • A deserved win for Reading as they outclassed an ordinary West Brom side, I don’t think Tony Pulis can have too many complaints about the defeat in all honesty
  • Watford eased into the 6th Round with a win at Vicarage Road over Leeds.
  • It really wasn’t a memorable game with Scott Wootton’s clumsy Own Goal being the difference on a rain soaked Afternoon
  • A drab day for Leeds who offered very little in attack and only troubled Costel Pantilimon’s goal the once in 90 Minutes
  • Watford could have had a second but Etienne Capoue’s finish was ruled out for a foul in the build up by Troy Deeney but the 1-0 win was nothing short of what they deserved
  • Bournemouth v Everton was arguably the most entertaining of the four matches yesterday
  • Everton went with a full strength lineup as Roberto Martinez aims to get something out of this season of underachievement
  • The crucial part of the game was Charlie Daniels’ Penalty saved by Everton Goalkeeper Joel Robles
  • The Cherries wasting a huge opportunity to go in front, one that Everton made them pay for with goals from Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku
  • At 1-0 down Eddie Howe ran the changes and his side did look more dangerous but they couldn’t get past a solid Everton backline and Lukaku wrapped the game up for The Toffees
  • For Everton it’s the 6th Round Draw to look forward to, for Bournemouth the sole focus is now Premier League survival.
