F.A. Cup 4th Round a few quick thoughts

  • The biggest and probably fair to say only upset was Shrewsbury’s dramatic win over Sheffield Wednesday as a 97th Minute winner sees The Shrews in the 5th Round Draw for the first time since 2000
  • Liverpool Reserves vs West Ham didn’t live up to the billing, although Liverpool’s young team did look quite good they just couldn’t beat Hammers keeper Darren Randolph yesterday and they will have to do it all again on Tuesday week
  • Spurs eased past Colchester – you can read a fuller run down of that here http://realfootballman.com/2016/01/31/colchester-vs-tottenham-a-few-quick-thoughts/
  • Arsenal didn’t relinquish their grip on the trophy but they were made to work for their 2-1 win over Burnley and Alexis Sanchez announced his comeback with the winner
  • Manchester City were comfortable winners at Villa Park with Kelechi Iheanacho getting his first Senior Hat-Trick for the club. Aston Villa and in particular Idrissa Gueye were at fault for two of the goals, a very abject performance from Villa and their unbeaten run comes to and end
  • Watford progressed to the 5th Round thanks to an Odion Ighalo strike. Although Nordin Amrabat nearly scored a fantastic volley but for the agility of Forest keeper Darius De Vries, while Costel Pantilimon keeps a clean sheet on his Hornets debut
  • Crystal Palace finally got a win, their first since December 19th and a Palace player actually gets on the scoresheet. A Wilifried Zaha strike was the difference as Stoke crash out of two Cup competitions in a week
  • Saido Berahino maybe gave West Brom the parting gift of two goals against Peterborough but it still wasn’t enough to get them into the 5th Round as a late Posh equaliser means the two sides will face off at London Road in a Replay
  • Bournemouth had to come from behind to get the better of the South Coast Derby over League Two Portsmouth. With substitute Marc Pugh’s late header breaking Pompey’s hearts
  • And their were comfortable wins for Championship sides Hull, Reading, Leeds and Blackburn
  • The 5th Round draw is later this evening
