- I went to the game last nigh – another front row seat. Actually it was the same seat as the Fiorentina game in the previous round as I’m superstitious like that
- But the miracle of White Hart Lane did not take place as Tottenham’s Europa League run has ended and for the third season in a row they fail to make the Quarter Finals
- It wasn’t a great atmosphere as there was an air of resignation around the ground but credit to the traveling Dortmund fans who although small in numbers made an incredible amount of noise throughout the game
- Spurs want to try and replicate that with the single biggest tiered stand in the UK, if they can get anywhere near that atmosphere then it will be quite a spectacle
- The lineup that Mauricio Pochettino put out was arguably what he should have picked 7 days earlier but we’ve gone other the reasons as to why as the Premier League now becomes the club sole focus
- Was interesting that even for a dead rubber Nabil Bentaleb still can’t get anywhere near the side, is he off in the Summer?
- Ben Davies had to go off early after being clattered by Hugo Lloris, credit to Davies he didn’t go off initially but a couple of minutes later you could see his mind was elsewhere and Danny Rose came on as a replacement
- The 3-0 scoreline from last Thursday gave Spurs a hell of a lot to do and once Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s fine curling effort put Dortmund ahead on the night and 4-0 up on aggregate it was game over as a contest
- Tottenham were well contained and they created little the biggest cheer of the first half came from Toby Alderweireld’s goal saving tackle and subsequent showboat which bought the house down
- In my opinion he’s the best Centre Back we’ve had since Ledley King
- With the tie wrapped up the intensity of the game dropped and Aubameyang got his second of the night to then make it 5-0 on aggregate this then saw a small exodus of fans who felt that was enough even after only 70 minutes
- It was almost the fans way of saying “If you are going to throw the first leg away, then we’re prepared to throw this”
- But the ones that did then missed Heung Min-Son get a consolation effort as his latched on to Neven Subotic’s missed place backpass to slot home and give the home fans something to cheer
- Dortmund looked sharp throughout and Tottenham will have to use this as a yardstick for if they make next season’s Champions League
- It’s a measure of how far they have progressed but still how far they have to go if they want to match the elite of European Football
- It’s now Bournemouth at home on Sunday. The debate about whether they should have gone for this tournament will roll on and on no doubt but the argument will be completely forgotten if Tottenham do go on to win the title
