- Well the obvious headline is “Enter Shaqiri” ok he didn’t get on the scoresheet himself but it was his assists that served up both goals for Stoke as they breezed past Manchester City
- A lot of betting coupons would have been bust before 3pm on the basis of this result
- Two goals from Marko Arnautovic were the difference as they breezed past the current League leaders
- Breezed is quite an apt word due to the near gales that were blowing at The Britannia but I don’t think you can blame the wind for City’s performance.
- Stoke were two up within 15 minutes but the complexion of the game could have different had Kevin De Bruyne not passed his shot straight to Jack Butland
- That was a pivotal moment as 45 seconds later Stoke had doubled there lead
- It could have even be 3 before half time thanks to the same combination but Arnautovic hit the post, although credit must go to Joe Hart on this occasion as he made the opportunity more difficult then the first two chances
- Manchester City look a difference prospect without Sergio Aguero and Wilifred Bony is not a suitable replacement. Will Manuel Pellegrini be forced into adding to his striking ranks in January
- For all of the stereotyping that comes with Stoke it seems apparent that Mark Hughes has finally managed to change and soften their playing style but so as it’s not to the detriment of the team in terms of results.
- With Bojan, Shaqiri and Arnautovic they have a incredibly effective attacking trio
- Today they same couldn’t be said for Manchester City as Sterling, De Bruyne and Silva all had quiet games
- To be honest Jack Butland didn’t have a lot to do and Stoke were better in every department. They were full value for their win and Mark Hughes will take special pleasure in getting a win over his former employers
