Dynamo Kiev vs Manchester City a few quick thoughts

  • A comfortable win in Kiev for Manchester City last night
  • 10 changes were made from Sunday’s mauling against Chelsea and it certainly made a difference
  • A 3-1 victory gives Manuel Pellegrini’s side a huge advantage as they look to progress to the Quarter Final stage for the first time
  • Does the win justify Pellegrini’s decision to make wholesale changes in the F.A. Cup tie on Sunday, not quite as this competition is nowhere near won but you can see where he ranks this competition in terms of priority
  • I guess it would have been easy for Pellegrini to focus on the easier task of domestic silverware before his departure to add a few more trophies to the clubs haul but if City want to be a top tier European club then they have to make further inroads in the Champions League
  • It was an assured performance last night with Sergio Aguero getting the opener and a crucial away goal
  • David Silva then doubled the advantage to make a good night in Ukraine even better
  • Going 2-0 up into the break was more than Manuel Pellegrini could have hoped for as his City side were well into the ascendency
  • Dynamo looked brighter after the break and Vitaliy Buyalsky pulled one back for the home side
  • City had Joe Hart to thank that parity wasn’t restored as he saved well from Buyalsky’s effort
  • The two goal advantage was then restored after a sumptuous Yaya Toure strike from outside the box after some neat buildup play
  • That strike will put City in the driving seat for the 2nd Leg and from here the tie is theirs to throw away
  • It seems like small progress in Europe has been made for City, can they now go all the way and give Manuel Pellegrini the perfect send off before Pep Guardiola arrives in the Summer
