- Apologies for the delay but I thought I would wait until after the Leicester game to give the thoughts a bit more context
- After closing the gap to two points and putting a bit more pressure on Claudio Ranieri’s side, frustratingly for us they have managed to pull that gap back to 5 points
- The very 5 points we dropped against West Ham and Arsenal
- But let’s be honest there are still 8 games to go so it won’t be that duo of London Derbies that necessarily stops us from winning the league
- But back to Sunday and it was good to get a first win in 4 matches in all competitions and a first win in 3 in the league
- Harry Kane is back in the goals and if he doesn’t manage to get a Premier League winners medal then he will at least aim to beat Jamie Vardy in the race for The Golden Boot with both players currently on 19 goals a piece
- His link up play with Dele Alli was exemplary and Kane will consider himself unlucky not to get a hat trick after hitting the bar as early as the 4th Minute
- For all the industry between Alli and Kane, I think Erik Lamela had the Man Of The Match performance yes it may have been against only Aston Villa but you’ve still got to put a shift in nevertheless
- Did Sunday’s win justify Thursday’s selection against Dortmund. It’s always going to be a tough one, if the gap was still two points by the end of Monday evening then I guess even more so but at least there was no banana skin at Villa Park in what was a very assured performance.
- As for Villa, now 9 points from safety. That means 3 wins at least between now and the end of the season to keep themselves up.
- The fact that they’ve only won 3 games all season up until this point means we are just counting down the days before the battle with the drop is lost
- As for Tottenham next up it’s the 2nd Leg of the Europa League against Dortmund, you would imagine it will be the second string playing at White Hart Lane with the full focus on trying to hunt Leicester down
- But Leicester certainly won’t make it easy, they could be as much as 8 points clear by the end of Saturday putting more pressure on Spurs
- Right now you just want to keep getting points on the board and just doing your bit, if Leicester do there’s then Spurs will have to get nothing less than a win at home to Bournemouth the following day
- The saving grace for Spurs is that with Bournemouth all but safe from the drop know maybe they will lower the intensity which has seen them turn in some good performances as of late
- It’s still very much Leicester’s to lose but they are running out of time in which to do it.
