Tranmere vs Tottenham – 2018/19 F.A. Cup Match Preview
The third round of the F.A. Cup gets under way this evening and the two teams that have been given the honour of kick starting the competition are League Two outfit Tranmere and their Premier League counterparts for this evening Tottenham.
Prenton Park is the venue and it is one that has been host to many a cup upset in years gone by, something that the hosts will be looking to repeat in a few hours time. However it is fair to say that they are going to have their work cut out regardless of what starting eleven is named by Mauricio Pochettino.
Much has been made that Tottenham don’t necessarily have a lot of squad depth, but if is that the case then the club have certainly made a mockery of this so called plight. When you consider that the club are third in the league and still in every competition that they have entered this season.
Now obviously they are yet to kick a ball in anger in the F.A. Cup this season, but they will be hot favourites to enter the fourth round draw at the start of next week. At the same time, you do get the feeling that this will be a chance for some of Spurs’ key men to be rested later this evening.
That is not to say that the North London outfit won’t take the competition lightly or treat it with any disrespect, especially when you consider that they have been semi-finalists in the past two seasons, a record that they will look to improve this time around in their hunt for a much coveted piece of silverware.
An away tie against lower opposition always has the potential to cause an upset along the way, but Tottenham are really hitting their stride as of late and will not want their momentum halted on Merseyside. There may be a smell of cup romance in the air tonight, unfortunately though it will be heartbreak for Tranmere as the Spurs go marching on.
