Tony Adams looking to drive Granada up the table

In what is the most unlikely managerial appointment you will see this season, ex Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams has been named as manager of Granada until the end of the season.

The La Liga outfit are 7 points from safety and Adams has just seven games to go in which to turn the clubs fortunes around. Granada currently find themselves 19th in the table with only Osasuna in a worse plight.

Many would have been surprised at the news that Adams is back in a managerial hotseat, with his last managerial stint coming in 2011 when he was in the football outpost which is Azerbaijan. At that time he was manager of Gabala FC in what was a less than remarkable spell in the former Soviet republic.

Adams who started his managerial career with Wycombe Wanderers in 2003 also had a less than memorable spell in 2009 with then Premier League outfit Portsmouth and it’s fair to say his managerial C.V. is not of the highest calibre.

The reason behind the appointment is not quite as left field as you may well think (Well it is really but there is some method to the madness) Adams was named the Sporting Director of the club as recently last week but with the departure of Lucas Alcaraz it has meant the former Gunner has taken the reigns until the end of the La Liga season.

Can he keep the club up? Well Adams certainly seems to think so but he is going to have to do something pretty special to turn around a club which has had a poor season and with Adams’ track record you do have to wonder if he really Is the man to revive their fortunes.

Remember the last former England defender to take charge of a Spanish club?

Gary Neville…..that’s all I’m saying on the matter
