- Tottenham threw down a marker to Leicester in terms of the title race with a scintillating win over Stoke at The Britannia Stadium
- With Leicester only managing to salvage a draw at The King Power Stadium on Sunday it presented Mauricio Pochettino’s side the opportunity to close the gap to just 5 points
- And Spurs weren’t going to turn that opportunity down not with the form they are in
- Harry Kane opened the scoring after just 9 minutes, a fantastic bent shot that zipped past Shay Given to give the title chasers an early lead
- I’ve used this word many times this season when describing Spurs and that is Relentless
- And again they were exactly that – they way they broke up play and then charged forward en masse was an incredible sight if you were a Spurs fan but perhaps not so much if you were an opposition one
- Tottenham did have plenty of chances to make the score 2-0 before the break, the best coming from Christian Eriksen but when all he had to do was stroke the ball past Given he opted for power and his shot rattled off the bar
- 1-0 at half time and although it wasn’t job done yet you did wonder if Stoke were going to get a foothold into the game
- Defeat for Stoke has all but ended their season if it wasn’t already – they looked sluggish last night. A yard off the pace and countless misplaced passes made it a long night for Mark Hughes’ men
- Marko Arnautovic was the only man to really test Hugo Lloris in what was a quiet first half for the French Goalkeeper
- Spurs still surged forward in the second half as they looked for a second to clinch the game
- They may have had to have waited until the 67th minute but Dele Alli was on hand to all but assure a win
- If that was the best of Alli we saw the worst just minutes later when Alli did all the hard work in breaking clear and rounding Given only to see his effort hit the post with the goal gaping at him
- An embarrassing moment for Alli and Mauricio Pochettino banged the ground in frustration although he needn’t had worried as minutes later it was 3-0 to Tottenham and a job well done
- Harry Kane’s second of the night and 24th of the season has put him 2 clear in the race for the golden boot and he has now scored more goals than Aston Villa in the Premier League – stupendous
- But Spurs didn’t stop there, Alli got some redemption for his howler earlier and made it 4-0 with 10 minutes late
- It was an absolute masterclass from Tottenham, from minute 1 to minute 90 they did not let up and brushed past what has been a previous bogey side
- The question now is can Spurs close the gap even further
- On that evidence they certainly can, if Swansea can do Spurs a huge favour then if they get the gap down to 2 points then it really is game on
- The belief is high at White Hart Lane it has to be with the way they are playing right now
- 7 unanswered goals in the last two matches – in all honesty it should have been 6-0 last night
- As the fans sung last night “Leicester City, we’re coming for you”
Papa Johns – If your team scores twice then it’s half price
