- Manchester City turned in a 5 star performance although it could have been 7
- Actually you could have picked any number and they should have scored 1 more goal than that
- How much of the display was down to City playing well and Steaua playing badly can be argued
- One thing is for sure and that’s the fact that Pep Guardiola will have guided his side into the Champions League group stages
- Obviously he will want to win the Premier League at the first time of asking but the Abu-Dhabi owners would have hired Guardiola for one thing in mind and that is finally conquering Europe
- If they can play like that in this competition after Christmas then they will have every chance
- Sergio Aguero grabbed the headlines with his hat-trick although he will want to forget the fact he missed not one but two spot kicks
- City were presented with the perfect opportunity to open the scoring after just 6 minutes when they were awarded their first penalty of the night
- Sergio Aguero stepped up and like on Saturday against Sunderland went to his left but this time he saw his effort saved
- Nolito then was on the hand with the follow up but saw that hit the bar and go over
- But City wouldn’t have to wait long to go in front as David Silva put them ahead after clever build up play from Raheem Sterling
- Aguero would then be presented with another opportunity to get his first of the not when Alexsander Kolarov was hauled down in the box
- But this time Aguero skied his spot kick over the bar much to great embarrassment
- That said he did finally open his account for the night just before the break and by then City were cruising
- After the interval Nolito scored his first goal for the club and it was all but game over with 40 minutes still left to play
- That gave City’s talisman Aguero more than enough time to add to his tally and with Steaua legs growing ever weary he registered his sides 4th and 5th goal of the night to wrap up a job very well done
- With such a comfortable win Pep Guardiola can be afforded the luxury of playing a near reserve team for the 2nd leg
- That could mean we see Joe Hart appear between the sticks as once again he had to make do with a place on the bench last night
- Overlooking the penalty misses it was a ruthless performance from Pep Guardiola’s men and the rest of Europe will have been put on notice.
