Southampton hope to recall captain Jose Fonte, who missed the midweek League Cup defeat against Liverpool because of a badly cut knee.
Top scorer Graziano Pelle returned after suspension to play in that match.
Villa could be missing both first-choice central defenders, with Ciaran Clark banned and captain Micah Richards nursing a knee injury.
Jores Okore may make his first appearance of the season, while Gabby Agbonlahor is fit after a calf injury.
Jack Grealish has been left out of the squad for the second week running as punishment for partying following the 4-0 defeat at Everton last month.
Editor’s Note: Southampton haven’t had the best of runs recently losing their last two in the league and then getting thumped 6-1 at home to Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday before this downturn in form they hadn’t lost in 7 league matches so will no doubt be looking to turn things around tomorrow.
Thankfully for them they play hosts to the worst team in the league Aston Villa and will look to compile more misery on Remi Garde’s side who are still yet to win a league encounter since the opening day of the season
Aston Villa have shipped 7 goals in their last two matches and looked pretty abject after their defeat at home to Watford last Saturday. Remi Garde said after the game that his side are in big trouble, at this stage of the season no team has ever scored as few points as Villa and defeat tomorrow could see them cast further adrift.
Some people feel that Villa are already done for and on current performances I believe that to be the case. They need to pick up a win and quickly but I can’t see that happening at St Mary’s. Southampton should have enough to win tomorrow especially as top scorer Graziano Pelle is now available after being suspended last weekend. Nothing other than a home win for me.
