You may or may not be aware that I am currently undertaking a project to see which teams across Europe are the most ruthless when it comes to scoring goals. Just how many efforts will a team need before breaching the opposition’s net?
Just how many chances are created in relation to goals and ultimately is a team deadly in front of goal or as blunt as a duvet when it comes to firepower. The first step of this project was to monitor the data of the leagues in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
You can find those seperate articles either in these archives or on my sister website Real Football Data and now I have all the data from each of the 98 teams in the top five divisions across Europe it is time to put all the analysis together for one definitive article.
And it is one that you can find in the link above, this will reveal which side currently is the most efficient in front of goal but obviously this is just a snapshot in time and the aim will be to update this every week (well that is the intention at least) to see how much movement there is in the top 20.
The next step will be to then look at matters from a defensive point of view and see what correlation there is between the two metrics and whether you can be both ruthless in attack and defence. That is all to come in due course but this one should whet your appetite for the weeks and months to come.
Not only but I can also expend this out to other leagues across both England and Europe but these may well be a bit more sporadic so that I make sure that the main part of the project is up to date and with the weekend’s action on the horizon that will be the work for next week.
Thanks as always to whoscored for the data as without the information it would be much more difficult to produce.
I hope this is of interest to you and if you have any football data work available then please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org as I am always looking to undertake additional projects to the ones I already have. Thanks, Dan.
