Anything that Real Madrid can do, Barcelona can almost do just as well. Zinedine Zidane’s men hit Deportivo for seven yesterday while the current league leaders had to make do with just five as they eventually made light work of Real Betis.
It was definitely a game of two halves last night as Real Betis managed to withstand Barcelona for 45 minutes before the floodgates opened after the restart. The win last night sees them now sit 11 points clear at the La Liga summit with their unbeaten league record still intact.
It took just before the hour for Barcelona to break the deadlock and it was Ivan Rakitic who slotted home, five minutes later it would be two as Lionel Messi got his first goal of the evening while another five minutes later Luis Suarez ended the game as a contest as he made it 3-0 with his first of the night.
Betis were looking weary at this point but Barcelona still had more in the tank, with 10 minutes remaining Messi scored his second to make it 4-0 while Suarez also managed a brace with just a minute of normal time left. An emphatic win but an emphatic collapse also by the home side.
Then again the result just shows the quality that the table toppers have, no need to panic after 45 minutes as they can simply go up through the gears. Remember this is a side that still has Philippe Coutinho waiting somewhat patiently in the wings to make his debut after joining Liverpool earlier in the month.
It certainly was a day for braces as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and even Nacho all managed seperate two goal hauls yesterday. A day to remember if you are a Barcelona or Real Madrid fan, one to forget if you are a Real Betis or Deportivo fan.
Here are all the goals from last night
