Real Betis vs Barcelona in less than 3 minutes

The race for the La Liga title took another turn in controversial fashion yesterday as Barcelona were denied a clear goal which ultimately cost them two important points away at Real Betis.

Aleix Vidal’s cross was sent towards goal by a Betis defender and Mandi slid the ball off the crossbar and away – but replays clearly showed it was well over the line.

Unlike the rest of Europe’s major leagues, La Liga has not installed goal line technology. Surely though after this controversial lack of a decision it will have to be implemented for next season.

It was the home side that were on top, Betis dominated and hit the woodwork through Dani Ceballos and Ruben Castro before Alex Alegria deservedly put them ahead.

But Betis could not make their early dominance count and would fail to win an unlikely three points when Luis Suarez was on hand to break the home fans hearts with an injury time equaliser.

The draw for Barcelona will heap more pressure on Luis Enrique as talks as to whether he will stay on when his contract expires this Summer continue.

With them now 4 points behind arch rivals Real Madrid who themselves have a game in hand, their defence of the La Liga title is very much slipping away.

There’s obviously no doubting the attacking prowess that the club have at their disposal but once again they are being let down in both defence and midfield.

Couple with the fact that their midfield lynchpin Sergio Busquets has joined Andres Iniesta in the treatement room and it’s not turning out to be the best spell for the Catalan giants as of late.

Perhaps the only way Luis Enrique can salvage his job is if he manages to snatch back the Champions League from Zinedine Zidane in May.

Here is all you need to know from yesterday
