Saturday saw another win for Real Madrid as they stayed top of La Liga. Thanks to a 3-1 win away at Osasuna they keep their 1 point gap over Barcelona. That may sound slender but then you must not forgot that Zinedine Zidane’s men still have two games in hand over their nearest rivals.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal midway through the first half looked to have put Real well on their way to victory but they were somewhat surprisingly pegged back by the home side. Sergio Leon ran clear to chip an equaliser and restore parity on 33 minutes.
But after the break Real were able to run through the gears and score two unanswered strikes to secure victory, firstly Isco scored just after the hour to restore Real’s lead while Lucas Vazquez would add a third in injury time to wrap up the points.
The game was overshadowed though by the terrible injury to Tano Bonnin in the first half. After being tackled by Spanish international Isco, Osasuna’s Bonnin would then suffer a broken leg and would have to be stretchered off the field in somewhat distressing scenes.
Real who experimented with a 3-5-2 formation looked somewhat out of sorts before Zidane reverted to the trusted 4-4-2 that has suited them so well throughout the season. Once they reverted to a flat back four they looked much more comfortable.
They win came at a cost though as Danilo had to come off injured in the second half, he will now be a doubt for Wednesday’s Champions League Round of 16 match as they play host to Napoli at the Santiago Bernabeu. A favourable draw for the holders as they look to continue their defence of the trophy.
In a week where Gareth Bale has returned to training things continue to look up for Los Blancos as should they win their games in hand then they will have a very comfortable lead at the top of the table, as they could end up as many as 7 points clear.
