Manchester United vs Hull – Match Preview

After cup action at the weekend it’s knockout football if a different kind this evening as Manchester United play host to Hull in the first leg of this EFL Cup Semi-Final.

United come into this game in red hot form and will look to carry that through to tonight’s encounter. With them just two matches from the final they will be heavy favourites not just to win tonight but to also secure their place in the final next month.

Wayne Rooney made the headlines for the right reasons at the weekend as he finally levelled the goal scoring record of Sir Bobby Charlton. Rooney scored the opener as United strolled to a 4-0 win over Reading on Saturday Lunchtime.

Could Tonight be the night in which Rooney breaks the record outright? After such a solid performance by the side that started in Saturday then you have to imagine there will be few changes made for the visit of Hull.

Marco Silva will take his new Hull side to Old Trafford as huge underdogs but they will come into this game with a small amount of momentum. That is because of their own cup win at the weekend.

The Tigers beat fellow strugglers Swansea at the Weekend and now move into the 4th Round of The FA Cup. That game like this will provide a welcome break for Silva’s men as they find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

The question for Hull’s own Portuguese manager is whether they have this games proper crack or whether or not key players are rested with league survival in mind.

You would have to imagine that with the side getting this far then they will give it their best shot but will that be good enough? To be honest I don’t think it will be as United possess far too much quality in comparison.

Truth be told I can see this being a comfortable win in the same level as the victory over Reading on Saturday. So much so that the 2nd leg will be all but a procession. An essay home win for me.
