Liverpool have signed Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic for £5.1m on a four-year contract.
The 19-year-old will return to the Serbian club on loan until the end of the season and join up with the Premier League side on 1 July.
The Reds outbid Anderlecht and Stuttgart and saw off interest from Russian sides CSKA Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg.
Grujic was part of the Serbia side that won the Under-20 World Cup in 2015. He has also represented his country at Under-21 level and has scored five goals in 22 games for Serbian Super Liga leaders Red Star this season.
Editor’s Note: A prospect for next season but in the immediate term maybe Jurgen Klopp will have to consider adding some new faces to the first team squad especially in Defence with their being no fit Centre Backs currently available.
Injuries to Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure last night means that all their options at Centre Back have been exhausted with Lucas having to fill in their last night. It looks like he will have to do the same on Friday for their cup game away at Exeter City.
So it’s a new face to link up in July but Klopp now has the concern of patching up an already inconsistent Defence. Watch this space to see if any more names are added to the Anfield ranks this month.
