Newcastle show no signs of stopping their January Transfer Window spending as they are set to sign Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia on loan from Roma, subject to a medical.
The ex CSKA Moscow Striker only moved to the Italian Capital a year ago for a fee of £10m but it hasn’t been a happy spell for Doumbia who made a return back to CSKA on loan in the Summer
That Loan move looks set to be cancelled to allow Doumbia to move to the Premier League and link up with Steve McClaren for the rest of the season.
The Magpies and Mike Ashley aren’t holding back as they know there is too much to lose by not staying up this season due to the bumper TV deal that comes into effect next season. The theory is if they can spend a bit more this month they will be rewarded with riches next season, but for that to happen they still have to stay up.
That might not be the end of the expenditure as they have also put in a bid of £21m for West Brom’s Saido Berahino. Are Newcastle confident of getting both Strikers to take the spending to over £50m this month. Will Berahino actually want to move to Newcastle as it’s reported that Spurs is still his preferred destination
The decision for Berahino will be whether he wants more game time at Newcastle or is more prepared to play backup to Harry Kane and ultimately will £21m actually be enough for West Brom to sell my thinking is that Jeremy Peace is going to want a little bit more before any potential move to the North East or London for that matter takes place. There’s certainly going to be a couple more twists in the tale before the end of the night.
