Real Madrid once again stay top of La Liga after coming out on top of a six goal thriller away at Leganes last night. Zinedine Zidane’s side were momentarily second for a few hours thanks to Barcelona getting the better of Sevilla at the Nou Camp.
But that situation was rectified by the end of the night as they returned back to the Spanish capital with all three points thanks to a 4-2 win over struggling Leganes. James Rodriguez opened the scoring but it would be Alvaro Morata who would be the hero of the night.
Colombian international James put Los Blancos ahead on the quarter hour mark with a simple tap in and then just three minutes Morata would get his first on the night. It looked like game over on 23 minutes as Morata got his second and Real’s third of the evening.
It was in danger of becoming a cricket score but then the game was turned on its head as the home side found their way back into the game with two quickfire goals before the break. Firstly Gabriel cut the deficit on 32 minutes with a close range strike and just two minutes after the game was to get even more interesting.
Luciano gave Leganes hope as his fine strike nestled into the net and meant that it was 2-3 going into the half time break. Unfortunately any hopes of a spirited fightback were killed off when Morata scored his third of the night and secured the match ball on 48 minutes.
His header deflected in off Leganes captain Martin Mantovani to seal victory for Real and restored them to the top of the table. A win that was perhaps tougher than Zinedine Zidane expected but there will not be too many complaints in the end.
