Well that couldn’t have gone any better for Harry Redknapp could it. An 8-0 thumping over the Footballing Superpower that is Bangladesh. Ok admittedly it wasn’t the toughest of opposition, so you have to wonder how much of this result was down to the “Redknapp Effect” but it sets them up very nicely for their next game against Australia.
Redknapp is initially on a 2 game contract with the sole aim being to get the Jordan National team to the next phase of the Asian World Cup Qualifiers. With that win that objective has been achieved, they will now look to beat Australia to top the group and assure direct qualification to the Asian Cup.
Talk will now move on to whether Redknapp becomes Manager for the next group phase, I would imagine that this will more than likely be the case. Redknapp was out of work for a while but then ended up getting two jobs in the space of a week. He is also working as Derby County’s Director Of Football until the end of the season.
Truth be told being Jordan Manager seems like quite a cushy gig for Redknapp he will get paid handsomely for 10 matches (maybe 12 depending on a play off – Jordan got to this stage in the last qualification campaign but were then thrashed by Uruguay, so no doubt they will be aiming to go one better this time around).
I guess it’s not exactly how Harry saw himself getting into the arena of International Management after he missed out on the England job back in 2012, but with him now reaching the twilight of his managerial career then it seems like this could be a nice little earner. The big question you now have to ask yourself is whether Joe Jordan and Kevin Bond are part of the backroom staff?
Here’s all the important action from their win over Bangladesh
