FIFPro World XI – Not A Premier League player in sight

Last night Cristiano Ronaldo was the named the first winner of the FIFA best award but it was also time for the announcement of the FIFPro World XI for 2016.

And it comes as some surpise that not one player from the Premier League has made the side. Alan Shearer recently drew criticism for his comments on Match Of The Day that the Premier League does not have any ‘World Class’ players but perhaps he is correct.

Disregarding Dani Alves’ move to Juventus in the Summer this side is made up of a staggering 10 La Liga players with only Manuel Neuer in goal stopping it from being an Iberian whitewash.

Does this lend weight to the argument that the Premier League may have the best managers but La Liga has the best players? I think that’s the way Sky Sports have to sell their product now and you would certainly think so looking at that line up.

It also begs the question what would a Premier League eleven look like and how it would compare against this World XI?

Who would you put in an Premier League version of this. I think the obvious inclusions would be Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard but then the rest is up for debate.

A debate that I’m more than happy to carry out on here, so please feel free to leave your Premier League XI’s in the comments below and we can look at making a team to take on this all conquering World XI.

That said this is still a side that could not find room for Antoine Griezmann but that’s probably due to the fact that it has actually kept some form of tactical shape. Imagine if Garth Crooks was naming the team, we would now be looking at some form of 2-7-1 formation.
