Copa America Centenario hosts the United States booked their place in the Semi Finals with a hard fought win over Ecuador

Clint Dempsey was on hand to score his third goal of the tournament and go joint top of the scoring charts with Lionel Messi and Philippe Coutinho. It was his strike on 22 minutes which gave the USA the lead in front of a partisan crowd at CenturyLink Field in Seattle

And their route to the Semi’s was confirmed when Gyasi Zardes made it 2-0 halfway through the second half. There was still enough time for Michael Arroyo to pull one back with quarter of an hour to go to set up a tense finish but the States were resolute enough to see the game out where they now will await the winners of Argentina vs Venezuela to see who they are facing in the Semi’s
