Barcelona vs Leganes in less than 3 minutes

Barcelona once again cut the deficit to just a single point in the race for La Liga but they did it the hard way in front of their own fans with a narrow 2-1 win over Leganes.

After the mauling the Barcelona suffered last week in the Champions League as PSG ran out very comfortable 4-0 winners the pressure was on Luis Enrique’s side to deliver all three points yesterday.

And although they did so the performance did not go down well with large amounts of the home crowd with boos being reserved for Enrique at the final whistle.

Things started perfectly for Barcelona as they took an early lead thanks to none other than Lionel Messi. With the Catalan giants ahead after just 4 minutes you got the impression it was going to be a long night in store for the away side.

But Barcelona failed to put Leganes to the sword and the longer the game went on with the scoreline still at 1-0 the more Leganes’ confidence grew.

Leganes were resolute and although still a goal behind their tactics were near perfect as they stifled wave after wave of Barcelona attacking endeavour.

But the game would be turned on it’s head with 20 minutes remaining as Leganes snatched an unlikely equaliser, although there was a contentious nature to the goal.

Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto had possession of the ball but appeared to be hauled back by Miguel Angel Guerrero, who fed Darwin Machis to deliver a cross for Unai Lopez to slot in

But there was still time for one final twist in the tale as with just two minutes remaining Barcelona were awarded a penalty. Neymar cut in from the left and was brought down by Martin Mantovani.

That meant that Messi was given the task of scoring from the spot which must be said is the only chink in the Argentine’s armour, but this time around he held his nerve and got Luis Enrique somewhat out of jail.

Here is all you need to know from yesterday
