Aston Villa vs Everton – Match Preview

Aston Villa forward Jordan Ayew is available to face Everton after serving a three-match suspension.

Villa remain without the injured Jack Grealish, Carlos Sanchez, Libor Kozak, Adama Traore and Jordan Amavi.

Everton forward Arouna Kone is fit after illness, while John Stones could play for the first time in a month after overcoming a hamstring problem.

Muhamed Besic will not be involved but may return from injury against West Ham at the weekend.

Editor’s Note: Basement side Aston Villa suffered another defeat at the Weekend away at Stoke and have won only one of their last 10 matches. It’s still mathematically possible for them to stay up with the gap being only 8 points but with their performances as of late, you do have to wonder if they are just waiting for the inevitable.

Their defeat on Saturday was not the ideal response that Remi Garde was looking for  after their previous 6-0 drubbing at home to Liverpool over a Fortnight ago. Will those same home fans who departed on 65 minutes get behind their club tonight or will they stay away after deciding enough is enough.

Remi Garde will need to start getting some results not just because Villa are desperate for points to stay up but also if he continues to lose it almost makes his job untenable for next season, I didn’t think he was the man to get Villa out of this mess and he certainly won’t be the person to get them out of The Championship in 2016/17.

Another person who could do with results is Everton Manager Roberto Martinez, his side currently find themselves 12th in the League. There seems to be half a dozen teams who keep interchanging positions and Everton currently find themselves at the bottom of that pack.

It’s not just the criticism of underachievement that is putting the pressure on Martinez, it’s also the fact that they now have a new shareholder at the club in the form of Farhad Moshiri. The Iranian born Brit is promising to invest £100m over the Summer but will Martinez be the man who is allowed to spend it.

They had no league fixture over the weekend due to Manchester City’s Capital One Cup Final commitments with their last league action coming on February 13th when they did everything but score against West Brom has they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Goodison Park.

Everton should make light work of this abject Villa side who are struggling for every point they can at the moment, The Toffees shouldn’t come unstuck here and will pile more misery on Remi Garde’s side. A comfortable away win for me.
