Barcelona were in rampant mood on Saturday as they hit Alaves for Six on their way to a resounding victory. There were ugly scenes before the game as crowd trouble took place but their was beauty on it as Barcelona were simply unstoppable. The win for Luis Enrique’s side came at a cost though as Aleix Vidal was stretched off with an ankle injury that will now see him miss the rest of the season.
In what is precursor for the Copa Del Rey Final later on this season it was not a good omen for Alaves as the Catalan giants ran the home side ragged. It took 37 minutes for Barcelona to open the scoring but once they did they never looked back.
Luis Suarez bagged the first of his brace to open the scoring and just minutes later Neymar would double their advantage. The score was only 2-0 at halftime but worse was still to come for Alaves as four more unanswered goals were added to the tally.
Firstly Lionel Messi would bag a goal to make it 3-0, a goal which would be the first of four in an 8 minute flurry. That would be added to by an own goal by Ruano Delgado to make it 4-0. Two minutes after that Ivan Rakitic would make it 5-0 and then Suarez would add his second to complete the 6-0 scoreline.
It was emphatic win for Barcelona which sees the gap at the top of La Liga still at 1 point to Real Madrid but with Los Blancos still with those two games in hand you do have to wonder how Barcelona are going to claw back any additional advantage that Real may accrue.
That win though was the perfect warmup for their Champions League encounter on Tuesday night when they travel to the French capital to take on Unai Emery’s PSG
