Premier League games are important no matter what stage the league is at during the season, but as the season goes on, some games become even more important to teams depending on their league positions and targets they set at the start of the season. This weekend there are a few entertaining games to watch out for, but the most important games that could have a costly effect on certain teams are the five below.
-
Manchester City vs. Tottenham
This is one of the more important games taking place in the Premier League this weekend as both teams still have the chance of winning the league. Chelsea are currently running away with the league so it’s important both teams go out to try and win to keep up with the leaders. If Manchester City lose this game then Pep Guardiola will be under immense pressure because not only will Manchester City be all but out of the Premier League title race, but they could also find themselves in 6th position behind their local rivals Manchester United, meaning they will have tough fixtures ahead of them to try and break into the top 4 again.
-
Chelsea vs. Hull
If you look at this game on paper you would have to say Chelsea will be able to put their reserves side out and still win against a team that is struggling in the Premier League. Of course, Chelsea will want to take this game as seriously as any other because a win will give them a good chance to go further ahead in the table if Tottenham don’t manage to beat Manchester City. This is an important game for Hull as well, because if they walk away without any points this weekend they could see themselves bottom of the league.
-
Liverpool vs. Swansea
Liverpool will want to keep up with leaders Chelsea in the title race this weekend and the only way they’ll be able to do that is if they beat Swansea convincingly. If they struggle to win against a team that has conceded the most goals in the Premier League this weekend, then it will be hard to see how Liverpool have any chance of toppling Chelsea to the Premier League title. This game is even more important for Swansea who are under new management, as they will want to show they have what it takes to stay in the Premier League.
-
West Bromwich vs. Sunderland
West Bromwich look like a different class under Tony Pulis this season, and even though they have had a few disappointing results in recent weeks, the pressure is off them this season in terms of trying to survive as they are currently 8th in the league. Sunderland however will need to grind out a result at the Hawthorns on the weekend if they are going to be able to compete in the Premier League next season.
-
Stoke vs. Manchester United
Stoke are doing a great job this season under Mark Hughes, and they are becoming the hard team to play against that they once were under Tony Pulis a few years back. The game is going to be played at The Bet365 Stadium which is going to make it even more difficult for Manchester United to walk away as winners. Manchester United need to win here to be able to keep their hopes of a top 4 finish alive.
The above five fixtures are the most important matches this weekend for a number of reasons. Many teams are looking to get points on the board to ease pressure on their relegation dog fight, whereas other teams are looking to fight for the title.
